A roof is too expensive to get wrong.

You’re choosing the protection over everything underneath it. SCS documents the condition, explains repair or replacement and puts the work and materials in writing before you commit.

Understand the roof before you pay for the work.

The wrong recommendation can leave the problem unresolved or have you paying for work you did not need. SCS documents the condition, traces the cause and explains the scope before you decide.

Start with the condition.

01 / 04Document record

Your roof assessment starts with the condition of your property and the problem you need solved.

What you don’t see matters.

A finished surface only tells part of the story. Take a look at the details you’re trusting someone to get right.

Details vary by project.

01 / Deck

Start with what holds it all.

The deck is the surface every roof layer depends on. Its condition needs attention before new materials cover it up.

Ask before you commit

What did the inspection find beneath the shingles?

02 / Ice & water

Give the vulnerable areas extra attention.

A self-adhered membrane adds protection at vulnerable areas such as valleys and eaves. Its placement should be planned around the roof, then explained in the scope.

Ask before you commit

Which roof areas receive ice and water protection?

03 / Underlay

Protection beneath the shingles.

Underlayment adds a secondary moisture-shedding layer between the deck and the shingles. The parts you won’t see still belong in the scope.

Ask before you commit

Which underlayment is included in the proposal?

04 / Starter

The edge has to start right.

Starter strips sit beneath the first shingles along the roof edges. They help secure and seal those edges, where wind and water can find a way in.

Ask before you commit

What is included at the roof edges before the shingles begin?

05 / Shingles

The finish is part of a system.

Architectural shingles form the visible, weather-shedding surface. Their installation needs to work with the layers and details underneath.

Ask before you commit

Which architectural shingles and installation details are in writing?

06 / Exhaust

Air needs a way out.

High vents give warm, moist attic air a way out. Intake and exhaust need to work together; adding one without considering the other misses part of the system.

Ask before you commit

How is exhaust addressed at the top of this roof?

07 / Ridge caps

Finish the highest line with care.

Ridge caps finish the peak where roof planes meet. The top line deserves the same attention as every layer below it.

Ask before you commit

How will the ridge and its finishing details be handled?

08 / Finished roof

Review the completed work.

At completion, the visible roof surface, edges, valleys, and penetrations should be reviewed against the written scope before the job is signed off.

Ask before you commit

What will be reviewed with me when the roof is complete?

Roofing questions

Straight answers before you climb any further.

Can a leaking roof be repaired, or does it need replacement?

That depends on where the water is entering, the condition of the surrounding system and the roof’s remaining service life. SCS inspects and photographs the condition before recommending repair or replacement.

What happens after a storm inspection?

You receive a clear explanation of what was found and a written scope for any recommended work. If the roof does not need work, SCS will say so.

What is a FORTIFIED roof?

FORTIFIED is a construction and reroofing standard focused on reducing storm damage. Ask your project manager about the applicable requirements and evaluation process for your home.

Do you install roofs outside St. Tammany Parish?

Yes. SCS serves St. Tammany and Tangipahoa parishes, the New Orleans metro and communities along the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
