A new finish starts with the existing concrete.

Before choosing the appearance, discuss the surface that will receive the coating. The existing concrete, intended use and preparation all belong in the project review.

Assess the surface first

Point out cracks, worn finishes, staining or moisture concerns you have noticed. Discuss the existing surface and any preparation or testing needed to evaluate a proposed coating system.

  • Current finish and known repair history
  • Visible cracks and damaged areas
  • Moisture or drainage concerns
  • Access and the area included in the work

What you don’t see matters.

Look beneath the new appearance. The slab condition and preparation help determine whether a proposed finish is suitable.

01 / Condition

Assess the concrete you already have.

Cracks, existing finishes and moisture concerns belong in the review. A coating should not be treated as a cure for an underlying slab problem.

Ask before you commit

What condition, moisture or movement concerns need assessment?

02 / Preparation

Make preparation visible in the scope.

The exposed surface illustrates preparation before coating. The required cleaning, profiling, repairs and testing depend on the slab and selected system.

Ask before you commit

What preparation and repairs are included before the coating goes on?

03 / Application

Name the system being installed.

The colored layer represents an application. Actual products, layers and installation conditions must be confirmed for the proposed system.

Ask before you commit

Which product system and application requirements are in writing?

04 / Finished surface

Know how the area returns to use.

A cut corner keeps the layers visible beneath the finished surface. Confirm maintenance and return-to-use instructions for the selected product and installation conditions.

Ask before you commit

When can this area be used again, and how should it be cared for?

Choose around the way the area is used

Explain the appearance you want and how people or vehicles use the surface. Ask about appropriate finish options, texture, maintenance and the conditions the proposed system is intended for. Confirm the actual product and its requirements before approval.

Make preparation and return to use explicit

The proposal should identify preparation, repairs, product system, finish and exclusions. Confirm when the area can be used again from the chosen system and installation conditions; a generic promise does not replace those instructions.

From the first look to the final walkthrough

Start with the condition and the way you want to use the space. Your project manager helps turn that conversation into a written scope before you approve the work.

  • Review the property, access and the work you are considering.
  • Compare the proposed materials, preparation, exclusions and price.
  • Have additional findings and changes explained before approving extra work.
  • Review the finished work against the agreed scope with your project manager.

Common questions

Can a coating correct a damaged slab?

The slab condition needs its own assessment. Discuss repairs, movement or moisture concerns before treating a new finish as the solution.

Do I need to choose a coating product first?

No. Start with the surface, its use and the appearance you want. Ask SCS to identify the proposed system and its preparation requirements in the written scope.

How soon can the area be used again?

That depends on the specified product, installation conditions and intended use. Confirm the project-specific return-to-use instructions before work begins.
